This year marks Brunswick Cycling Club’s 110th anniversary, a significant milestone in a long and proud history. The club was officially founded in 1916 as the Northern Suburbs Amateur Cycling Club, which later became Brunswick Amateur Cycling Club, and the Brunswick Cycling Club as you know it today.

The photo on the right was taken on 1st May 1916 and shows the founding members of the Northern Suburbs Amateur Cycling Club.
The club’s early home was Brunswick Park, before moving to Allard Park, and in 1956 relocating to our current home on Harrison Street.
The original velodrome, built to Olympic standards with an asphalt surface, was completed in 1956 just in time for the Melbourne Olympic Games.

Fluorescent lighting was later installed by Alf Walker (pictured left), and in 2016 the venue underwent a significant redevelopment, delivering new lighting and the modern Alf Walker Clubrooms we use today.
We are fortunate to be part of the club’s continuing story. Whether you are a current or past champion, a parent, coach, or clinic helper, it is our dedicated members who remain the heartbeat of this vibrant and active club.
Club spirit was on full display last Sunday at our Junior Clinic Championships. It was fantastic to see so many new young riders taking part in our Junior Clinic this year and watching them learn and have fun each week. We are incredibly proud of our Junior Clinic, it was first established in 1948 and has been a cornerstone of the club ever since.
Merri-bek Council and I have been in ongoing discussions regarding the current condition of the velodrome. While they acknowledge that significant repairs are required, we are currently awaiting further updates. Once funding is approved, I will share timelines and outline any anticipated impacts to our training sessions.
Many of you may have received recent emails from AusCycling regarding the Special General Meeting on April 23rd. At our next committee meeting, we will discuss and establish the club’s position on the SGM and will keep members informed of our position and any decisions in the weeks ahead.
Celebrating Our People and the Season Ahead

We are delighted to congratulate Genevieve Jordan on an outstanding performance at the Masters Track National Championships, held at the Anna Meares Velodrome from 17–20 March. Genevieve claimed national titles in the 500m Time Trial, Sprint and Keirin — an exceptional achievement and one we’re incredibly proud to celebrate as a club.
We also wish the very best of luck to all our elite and junior members representing Victoria at their National Championships over the coming weeks. We’ll be cheering you on from home! Find out how to watch all of the action on SBS and YouTube here.
As the track season begins to wind down, there are still a few key dates to mark in your calendar. We have our Club Track Championships on Saturday 28th, followed by the always‑popular Easter Madison on 4 April. Most importantly, we’re looking ahead to our Junior Clinic Family Day, where we celebrate everything that makes clinic special community, fun, and plenty of laughter. We can’t wait to see everyone’s best fancy‑dress efforts, with creativity encouraged and enthusiasm mandatory.
While track racing slows for the season, there’s always another bike ready to be dusted off. Road, gravel and cyclo‑cross are just around the corner, keeping the momentum rolling.
Following it's growing success, we’re excited to serve up another feast with the Apple Crumble Gravel Crits, kicking off 26 April. Be sure to check out our Strava Club for the full buffet of dates, with future rounds opening on EntryBoss soon.
As always, ride safe and don’t forget to tag us on socials @brunswick_cc so we can share in the ride.
Cheers,
Ben
